Conjunctions Jenga

Use the labels provided in the packet to make the classic game of Jenga a fun way for students to learn and practice using coordinating conjunctions and common subordinate conjunctions.

The 7 coordinating conjunctions and common subordinate conjunctions are provided, two for each block (top and bottom) in a standard Jenga game. Color codes are used to distinguish the words. Simply print the labels or cut the strips and tape to the top and bottom of each block.

Set up the game as usual. Play the game following the standard rules for Jenga, except that when students pull out a block they must write and correctly punctuate a sentence using the conjunction. Students will quickly start to feel comfortable developing and distinguishing compound and complex sentences.

Note- Be sure to require that the coordinating conjunctions combine two independent clauses. It is allowable for students to use the coordinating conjunctions between words and phrases. However, the intention of this game is to give students experience with using the correct punctuation for compound and complex sentences.

Two variations are provided. One list is on a blank document for easy printing for posters, interactive journals, etc. The other is set to print on White Easy Peel Avery Labels Number 8167.
